As we step into 2025, I’ve been reflecting on the importance of connection—and I have a confession to make. Even as a social skills coach, I fall into the same traps as everyone else. Just this Christmas, I spotted the gift certificate to the movies that I received last Christmas still stuck to my fridge, unused. It hit me: a whole year had passed, and I hadn’t taken the time to enjoy something as simple as a movie night. Life got busy, and my own friendships and a movie with a friend were pushed aside.
I decided that I needed to do better. When I got a holiday card from my friend Patti, she was holding a brand-new grandbaby! I knew her son and his wife were expecting, but I hadn’t realized the baby had already arrived. Seeing that card reminded me how out of touch I had become, so I immediately texted her. We’re now having lunch tomorrow, and I can’t wait to hear all about her growing family.
What about you? When was the last time you made space in your life for a coffee date, a walk, or even a quick chat with a friend? It’s easy for those moments to slip through the cracks, especially when you’re caught up in the whirlwind of family, work, and everyday demands. Let’s make 2025 different—together. This year, I’m committed to being intentional about creating those moments, and I’d love for you to join me.
Here’s your small challenge for this week:
Think of one friend you haven’t connected with in a while. Send them a quick text or email, or even plan to use that gift certificate you’ve been holding onto (like I will!). Small steps like these can create meaningful connections and brighten both of your days. Let’s hold each other accountable to prioritize what really matters—our relationships.
Comment and let me know your first step, or share your own goals for making 2025 a year of connection. I’d love to hear from you!
